DESCRIPTION:Int’l Friendship Day – 2017\, lands on Sunday\, July 30.      Are you ready? \nIf you  weren’t aware of Friendship Day\, well\, neither was I\, because it was only first recognized in 2011.  And if you initially suspect that it’s in the same category as “National Lasagna Day”  (July 29th)\,  or  “National Cheesecake Day”\, (also July 30th)\,  I agree.  As much as I enjoy both Lasagna and Cheesecake\,  I’m not quite sure they merit a special day of recognition. \nBut Friendship\, well\, that is completely different. \n\n“The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion\, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement\, who can tolerate not knowing… not healing\, not curing… that is a friend who cares.”                                                                                                                  Henri Nouwen \n\nWe live in turbulent times\, when friends are even more important and more precious than ever.  So precious\, in fact\, that I am reminded of the words of  Thomas Jefferson\, “I never considered a difference of opinion in politics\, in religion\, in philosophy\, as cause for withdrawing from a friend.” \nSo what is the best way to observe Friendship Day?  Does it require some commercialized\, over-the-top production\, on the scale of Thanksgiving\, Christmas\, or New Year’s?  While every friendly relationship is unique\, a simple acknowledgement seems most appropriate.   A card\, a letter\, a phone call\, an email\, a text\, a hug are all meaningful\, yet low-key. \nWe feel so strongly about the importance of friends that we’re willing to put some skin in the game.  As a tangible gesture of Friendship\, you might consider a small token of jewelry\, from our ready-made selection.  Unique\, hand-crafted necklaces\, earrings or bracelets created in our shop by our talented staff:  No duplicates\, no mass marketed pieces.  And for the next three days\, Friday thru Sunday\, 20% OFF. \nBut regardless of how you celebrate\, remember the words of Robert Louis Stevenson\,    “A friend is the gift you give yourself.” \n  \n  \n
