Stepping in to load and fire the cannon when the regular gun crew was killed and injured\, she remained calm under enemy fire. This was not part of her normal training or experience\, but she was no shrinking violet. And yet she was nimble enough to get the job done. DESCRIPTION:David V Horste\, Lapidary Artist \nTrunk Show\n“The Power of Pastels” \n  \n \nThis is the dictionary definition of “Pastels.”   \nIt is an art medium.  Paint with chalk. \n  \nBut this is what David is thinking of when he talks about “Pastels\,” in his Bead world. \n  \n    \nThese Focal beads are similar to the “Ford-ite” that David has shown to us in the past. \nHowever\, these are made from the “over spray” of a surfboard manufacturer.   \n“Hang Ten\, dude!” \n  \nMore traditionally\, David has prepared some “Easter Eggs”\,  for us\, in the form of both Cabochons & Focal Beads.   \n  \n \nTOP: Hemimorphite\, Thulite\, Lapis Lazuli\,\n \nBOTTOM: Rhodochrosite\, Shattuckite\, Kingman Turquoise \n \nTOP:  Amazonite\, K2 Azurite in Granite\, Thulite\, Citron Chrysoprase \nMIDDLE: Ruby in Zoisite\, Persian Turquoise\, BumbleBee Stone\, Shattuckite \nBOTTOM:  Rhodochrosite\, Chevron Amethyst\, Lapis Lazuli\, Emerald \nFor many people\, this is Holy week and in honor of this David has cut up a batch of focal beads and cabs out of his limited stock of genuine Bloodstone.   \nBloodstone has been seen as a special stone since ancient times.  The Greeks  believed it was a stone that affected the rain\, solar eclipses\, and could cause invisibility.   \nIn more recent history the stone was adopted by people of the Christian faith to represent the blood of Christ.   \nBloodstone is also the classic\, traditional\, birthstone for the month of March.  \n   \n  \nFinally\, David will have a good stock of genuine Persian turquoise from Iran and sparkling natural surface astrophyllite from Russia\, both of which were stones he scored big with in Tucson this year!    Take a look at this gorgeous and remarkable stone. \n  \n    \nAstrophyllite.  From Russia. \nThis is David’s first Trunk Show at BDC in  over  1 1/2 years.  I think you’ll have to agree that it’s going to be a “druzzy”.  😳

DESCRIPTION:(Be sure and check out ALL the Pics at the bottom of this post.)\n\n\n\n​​Nancy Gant’s “Simply Lampwork” Studio \nwill be at BDC Saturday\, March 30th\, \nfor ONE DAY ONLY .  The last time Nancy visited \nBDC was  a little over 2 years ago\,\nand this is her only scheduled \nappearance in Portland for the rest of 2019.\n\nYou may have met her on a previous visit\, \nand would have seen the wonderful & whimsical  \nFauna & Flora that she creates\nwith a flame and some special glass. \n \nSo\, what has she been up to? \n\nShe’s expanded her repertoire. \n\nThe cute rabbits above are part of Nancy’s\nNew “Mix ‘n Match”  3 piece bunnies sets\nthat let you assemble them any which way\,\nto suit your fancy.  \n\nThere are also new “Ocean Moon” & “Forrest Scene”\nFocal Beads that now feature Dichroic enhancement. \n\nShe has added a whole new family of delightful Dragons.   \n\nNancy’s signature “Flower” Focal Beads\nnow feature “Double-Sided Bouquets”.   \n\nAnd\, of course\, all of the Fanciful  & Fun Creatures that\nNancy is noted for will also be in the house.\n\n\nSaturday\,  10 AM – 5 PM.\n \nThese “thematically correct” Easter Bunnies are “Mix ‘n Match”\, that is they come in 3 pieces\, so you can select the head\, body\, and legs in any combination you like !! \n
