Theodore of Janu Gems is arriving in Portland this week, at the exact same time as the Midsommer Solstice and our own genuine Oregon Sunstones. Coincidence, or convergence? Does it matter?

From Friday through Sunday, he will be live at BDC with a massive, fresh excavation of semi-precious gems curated specifically for your summer projects. Most of you have met Theodore on his previous visits, and you know he brings a level of variety and genuine value that you simply cannot find anywhere else.

While Theodore is anchoring the weekend with his incredible showcase, BDC is opening a vault of our own to match him.

We have just secured a premier acquisition of native Oregon Sunstone, sourced directly from the Ponderosa Mine. This is entirely distinct from the glittery, faceted Indian Sunstone from past shows; this local treasure is all about organic texture and crystal-clear purity.

We’ve broken this special find into three specific forms for creators:

4–8mm Smooth Rounds: Strands of bright-polished, unfaceted rounds—like small, luminous marbles—boasting an almost colorless crystal clarity.

Matte Nuggets & Chips: Strands of organic, matte-finished cuts that retain rich color and subtle hints of natural schiller.

Ponderosa Rough: Small, individual bags of raw, un-cut sunstone straight from the earth for an entirely untamed design.

The Summer Solstice arrives this Sunday, marking the peak of the season’s light. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than putting Theodore, these rare Ponderosa treasures, and our community of makers in the same room.
